Feel Good Friday #5

Now I’ll be honest, I would class myself as quite a strong minded person, I accept others for who they are without judgement and I expect the same from the people that I associate myself with. That’s why I love this quote.
I can be quiet until I know someone well and I’m not an ‘in your face person’, I’m happy and nice to people because I don’t feel the need not to be. For those reasons people can often get the wrong impression of me and assume I’m a push over. Well they couldn’t be further from the truth. Just because I’m nice to people it doesn’t mean I can’t stick up for myself and just because I don’t feel the need to confront a person if they have said something mean behind my back it doesn’t mean I don’t know the type of person they are. I truly do not care about the opinions of those people and I therefore don’t feel the need to be negative back to them.
So here is my point. A truly strong person does not need the approval of others. Those who are mean for no reason are most definitely insecure within their own lives and therefore their negativity should not impact on your happiness. A lion is fundamentally different to a sheep and thus a sheep’s opinion of what is right and wrong does not matter to him. The opinions that society may have of you do not matter, the opinions you have of yourself do. People who try to fit in with the expectations of society and other people, making themselves unhappy in the process are sheep. The people who live their life according to their own values and morals are lifes lions and those are the people who I have found are often the happiest.
I shall finish this post with a quote by Coco Chanel who I believe was a truly inspirational woman and one of lifes lions.

                                                                           tumblr.com
The people who have negative opinions about you are often people who don’t know you anyway or who are jealous of you in some way. Those people don’t deserve space in your head. The only opinions that matter to me are those of me and my loved ones, why worry about the opinions of people who mean nothing to you. As the saying goes - those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.

Feel Good Friday #4

                                                                               tumblr.com

Today’s post is about taking chances! Had you guessed?! Recently I’ve been pondering over which direction I want my life to take me, by this I mean what job would I like to do when I’ve finished my degree, where would I like to live in the future, what personal goals would I like to achieve and other such questions.
Well about a week ago I heard about the 101 things in 1001 days challenge (in which you make note of 101 things that you would like to accomplish in 1001 days funnily enough) from my best friend Kate who is also doing the challenge and I thought ‘what an amazing idea!’ 1001 days is three years, plenty of time to achieve my goals! So I began writing a list of all the things that I’d like to do and achieve in the next three years and while it’s not quite finished yet, it’s really made me think of some exciting things that I’d like to accomplish, some of which I may never get around to doing otherwise. It’s made me think of new ways to push myself so that I can experience life to its fullest and most of all it has made me see that in order to achieve anything, we need to take chances. I took a chance last month when I started writing my blog and I’m so glad that I did because I am thoroughly enjoying writing about a topic that I love as well as reading some lovely comments that have been left for me by people who have read my posts.
So my advice is always to be open to taking a chance, because you never know where it may lead you!

The Liebster Award

So today I was lucky enough to wake up to find that Kymmy from BeautyTalkWithKymmy had kindly nominated me for the Liebster Award. Now my initial thought was 'what's a Liebster Award?' so I did some research and found that the objective of the award is to bring attention to up and coming blogs, what a great idea! The idea is that you are nominated by one blogger for the award and you subsequently nominate eleven other blogs that you think also deserve it.
These are the rules:
1. You must link back to the person who has nominated you.
2. You must answer the eleven Leibster questions that you are asked by the nominee before yourself.
3. You must choose eleven bloggers who have under two hundred followers to be nominated for the award.
4. You must come up with eleven questions for your nominees.
5. You must go to your nomminees blogs and notify them.
Here are my answers to Kymmy's questions:
1. What's your favourite item in your wardrobe?
This is a tough one, I think I'll have to say my black American Apparel disco pants at the moment because they literally go with anything - crop tops, jumpers, converse, heels, the list goes on. I can also wear them for both day time and night time.
2. Favourite makeup brand and why?
It will be of no surprise to anyone who reads my blog that MAC is my favourite brand of all time, I think they are extremely on trend with their colours and I always find their products to be fantastic quality and definitely worth the money. They are also the only brand that I have come across who do foundations that completely match my skin tone.
3. Would you rather only wear your hair in a ponytail or a messy bun?
A messy bun, it's my go to style when I don't want to make an effort with my hair and I think it's a really pretty look.
4. What beauty skill do you wish you were better at?
I wish I was better at doing different hairstyles, I really want to learn to do a fishtail plait.
5. How long have you been blogging?
Around a month now and I'm really enjoying it.
6. What is your favourite candy?
Haribo sour cherries!
7. Lipstick or lipgloss?
Lipstick for day, lipgloss for night.
8. Beauty product that you can't live without?
Concealer, hides a multitude of sins!
9. If you had 1000 dollars to spend would you spend it on clothes or makeup?
Hmm this is a toughy, I already have a lot of makeup and I think I would be up to my neck in the stuff if I spent that much, so I'll have to say clothes.
10. Would you rather wear winter clothes in the summer or summer clothes in the winter?
I'd wear winter clothes in the summer because I'm cold most of the time anyway.
11. What is one of your pet peeves?
When double jointed people move their arms or fingers in that weird way...argh it creeps me right out!
My eleven nominees are:
1. Kate Fabulous
2. Amarillis Dawn
3. Stylesalvation
4. Fashion Love by Pam
5. Pint Size Pixie
6. Makeup With Tea
7. LOVE & WARdrobe
8. It's All Just Rosie
9. Ruth Boon Make-up
10. the Powder Room
11. Outside Fashion Catwalk
My eleven questions are:
1. What is your holy grail beauty product?
2. How would you describe your personal style?
3. What is your favourite makeup brand?
4. What made you decide to start blogging?
5. What is your favourite item in your wardrobe?
6. Where do you draw inspiration from for your blog?
7. Which is your favourite blog?
8. What is your favourite brand of clothing/place to buy your clothes?
8. Do you have a favourite Youtuber, if so who?
9. What is your favourite way to wear your hair?
10. What is your 'everyday makeup look'?
11. Do you have a favourite makeup look for night time, if so what is it?

My Summer Beauty Essentials!

Summer has to be my favourite time of year! I just love being out in the sunshine wearing pretty summer clothes and enjoying life. However when it comes to wearing your summer wardrobe and getting out having fun in the sun, us girls know that whether it be beautifying ourselves or damage control, a few preps need to be undertaken first. So without further ado – here are my beauty essentials that prepare me for the warmer weather!
A high SPF for the face – because nobody wants to have a face full of wrinkles when they’re older do they?! I like to wear SPF 50 when it’s sunny outside even if I’m just in the UK, not because I burn easily, which I don’t as I have an olive skin tone, but just because I want to prevent the sun’s harmful rays from making me look like a prune in years to come and more importantly to help prevent more serious effects such as skin cancer. I like to use an SPF specifically formulated for use on the face as I am prone to spots and I find that normal sun cream clogs my pores.
A gradual tan body moisturiser – I love Garnier Summer Body as it has a lovely fruity scent and not the stale biscuit smell that fake tan usually has. Now don’t get me wrong – I love my fake tan for nights out, however this product gives me a lovely sun kissed glow and it’s really moisturising too, perfect for everyday use and in case the pins make an appearance!
Frizz control – Being out in the sun, swimming in the sea, humidity – they all take their toll on our locks. I love Aussie’s three minute miracle frizz remedy to deeply condition my hair, followed by their miracle hair insurance leave in conditioner to keep my barnet silky smooth and ready to fight the elements.
Bright or pastel nail colours – Pretty nails are a must in summer, time invested in doing a mani pedi is well spent in my opinion! Two nail polishes that I have been loving this season are China Glaze’s Orange Knockout and Essie’s Lilacism. I think Summer is the perfect time to experiment with nail art and different colour polishes. I’ve also been enjoying painting my nails in multicoloured pastels recently.
Lip Products – When the weather is really hot (not all that often in the UK although I can’t complain this year) or when I’m on holiday, I will usually opt for a gloss or a matte lip cream due to the fact that there’s no chance of them melting in my handbag. Collection’s Cream Puff in Fairy Cake is my favourite lip cream of the moment, it’s such a pretty coral shade – very apt for summer. If the weather isn’t too hot I will usually go for a bright lipstick, I’ve been wearing MAC’s Viva Glam Nicki a lot recently – a gorgeous flamingo pink.
So these are the products that I couldn’t be without during the summer! I love being nosy and reading about other people’s holy grail beauty products so do feel free to let me know yours too!

My MAC Blush Collection

I’ve noticed since starting this blog and writing about my makeup collection that most of my makeup is in fact by MAC. I’m not biased and I do own makeup by other brands, however I can’t lie – it is my favourite brand and this is simply due to the sheer variety of colours and finishes that they provide in all of their products. So, I own four blushers by MAC and each one serves its purpose for a certain time of year or makeup look that I may be going for, meaning that no matter what the occasion, one of these blushers will be just perfect for me. So here is my beloved collection by name and finish.

                 Fleur Power                                       Style                                        Peachtwist                                Dollymix

Fleur Power. Satin – This is my most recently purchased blush and I have been wearing it pretty much none stop throughout spring and summer. It is my everyday pink blusher and I love the fresh faced look that it gives me. As I mentioned in my everyday makeup post I usually wear a peach or bronze blush (Style or Peachtwist to be exact) during the warmer months when I have a bit of colour to my skin, however this year Fleur Power has been my staple for everyday. I would describe the colour of this blush as a bright, warm rose. The satin finish makes the product look very natural on my face with very little sheen, almost matte but not quite. I love wearing this with a pink lip for everyday.
Style. Frost – As you can tell, this is my most worn blush! I absolutely love it for all year round as it adds a gorgeous healthy glow to my cheeks. MAC describe the colour as a ‘coral peach with gold pearl’ which I believe is the perfect description. The gold pearl is what adds that lovely glow which makes the product perfect for all seasons, I especially love wearing this in winter to add some warmth to my complexion as it’s just the right colour for me to be able to do so without it being too dark or bright for when my skin is paler. In my opinion Style is the perfect peach blush for a medium skin tone, however I do think it would also look beautiful on lighter skin if used more sparingly. On darker skin this peach may be too light to show up so in that case, Peachtwist could be a better option.
Peachtwist. Sheertone Shimmer – This is my perfect summertime blush, I love this for sunny holidays! I can only describe the colour of this product as a beautiful bronzed peach. You can definitely see the shimmer when looking at this blush in the pan, however it’s very finely milled and on the skin shows up as a gorgeous healthy tanned glow. I don’t always use a highlighter when I use this blush as I find that the shimmer adds enough of a glow to my face on its own. This is a lovely colour for medium to darker skin tones.
Dollymix. Sheertone Shimmer – MAC’s description of this colour is ‘pure candy pink’ and that’s exactly what Dollymix is! While this blush does look slightly scary in the pan, if applied with a light hand it adds a lovely flush of colour to the cheeks. However, if you feel like opting for a more intense pink cheek, this blush is most definitely buildable and as with Peachtwist, the shimmer adds a beautiful glow meaning you don’t need a highlighter unless you feel like going for an all out makeup look, in which case – go for it! This blush looks amazing either way. A perfect bright pink for all skin tones.
So those are the MAC blushers that I own, I love them so much. I definitely think blushers are underrated, the perfect colour can completely lift your complexion and bring a new lease of life to your face (slightly dramatic but so true!) I hope you enjoyed this post, feel free to let me know what your favourite blushers and underrated face products are too!

Feel Good Friday #3

                                                                                tumblr.com

I love the optimism induced by this quote. I really think that believing good things will happen to you makes you appreciate all the little things that happen throughout the day that you may not have taken notice of before. Being in an optimistic frame of mind and actively trying to see the positive in situations helps you to view the world in a way which allows you to see the wonderful things in your life.
So for instance, if you have a big decision to make – realise that it could be the start of an amazing new chapter in your life. If you’re starting a new job or school and are feeling nervous, think of all the things you’ll gain from the situation you’re in – new friends, a new perspective perhaps, new skills?! The next time you’re anxious about doing anything – realise that it’s completely normal to feel that way and make a mental note of what you will gain from that experience. Perhaps you will learn something new or maybe you just won’t feel as nervous the next time you’re in that situation, maybe you’ll even enjoy it!
Even the small things such as appreciating when people do something nice for you like holding a door open or smiling at you, do these things more often yourself and you’ll notice when others do them too! Taking the time to notice when you can see something positive in a situation eventually leads to an overall more optimistic mindset.
So there you have it, if you want to view life in a more optimistic way, start taking note of all the wonderful opportunities and people that come your way, starting today!
